Can the headphones be operated without software, just like a normal USB headset?

Yes, the software is only optional. Either pair normally via Bluetooth (on the PC or smartphone) or plug the supplied Bluetooth stick into the PC and off you go. Works flawlessly and very quickly. In addition, the headset can be connected to several Bluetooth devices at the same time.
