Do the models without cellular have GPS or not? According to Digitec, yes; according to Apple, only iBeacon micro-location. Which is correct now? What is the difference? And above all: Does the tracking work in the periphery as long as you are connected to the internet via a mobile phone hotspot?

So mine (2020) has GPS built in - can use the maps and see the location including coordinates - some field-forest-meadow app store compass does the same (plus I'm still asked: ...use GPS...).

GPS and iBeacon are two different things... (GPS: positioning of the device and apps, iBeacon for positioning).

Don't know why this is so important but the ipad always knows where it is. That should mean it gets it from the GPS or from the iphone in the vicinity. This also works when I am not at the iphone hotspot.
