Hello all I don't understand why the FP3 runs Android 10 and promises updates for (only) 5 years. After all, if the point is to be able to fix the phone over and over again, an Android One would make much more sense. Or am I misunderstanding this? Is there a Fairphone with Android One? Thank you and greetings
The 5 years are usually a period that suppliers and software developers (e.g. camera software) can contractually support and subsequently deliver. This is standard industry practice. But that doesn't mean that your phone will suddenly stop working after 5 years. Think of it as a "spare parts guarantee".
The Fairphone also allows the installation of unofficial operating systems. This means that if there are no more official updates after 5 years, you can install a current LineageOS or similar.
