I'm looking for a second screen for my laptop, so just the screen. Does this one have a "dedicated power cable" and an HDMI cable to connect to the laptop separately? I've had screens that only had a socket or a power cable that had to be connected to the PC for it to have any power at all.

Yes, the power connector and HDMI cable are separate and are included in the package. Note that the screen is not adjustable in height, otherwise I am very happy with it.
