Question about WD Elements Desktop

I've bought the WD Elements many times and I've always found that they get louder and louder over time. Why is that? They also vibrate more and more, even though I place them upright, as recommended, on the rubber nubs. Can anyone recommend really good alternatives that are very quiet, i.e. "inaudible"?

I notice that too. I don't know of a real alternative. Another negative thing I notice is that the large discs cannot be password-protected with the WD software. I have now encrypted them with Veracrypt. I still have an older My Book with 9TB, which is quieter and can be password-protected. But for over 20TB I have stocked up with WD Elements, so I can't help.
