When using PBP, do I need to connect two monitor cables of the computer so that the usage is the same as if I connect two separate monitors?

As an addition: I want to use PBP and thus divide the monitor permanently into two monitors.

No, only one cable. I have an MS Surface PC. I use a USB C cable from the display which provides the display with the signal AND also charges the PC. Really very happy with it. It is one screen. Not separate displays and I can have three separate programs on the display at the same time. Outlook on the left, internet on the right and another app in the centre. The MS operating system allows you to split the viewing panes. My screen saver is a collection of panoramic photos spanning the whole screen. Highly recommended.
