The original Brother STe-141 stencil tape with white lettering on a transparent background (non-adhesive) has been specifically designed for electrolytic labeling. It features a temperature-sensitive layer that contains ink or a special liquid for direct marking of electrically conductive surfaces or metal parts.

When the stencil is printed, small holes are integrated, allowing the electrolyte to penetrate the tape during the subsequent etching process. A stamp with a marking felt or similar is placed on the tape and pressed into the metal (required electrochemical equipment is not available from Brother). Finally, the metal changes color and is permanently marked with a serial number, barcode, or logo.
