Clairefontaine, Pastelmat N°1, pastel pad, head glued, 12 sheets 18x24 cm, 360g, 4 colours assorted. The 360g Pastelmat paper has been specially developed for pastel painting. Both the front and reverse sides can be used. The pigments adhere excellently and are emphasised very well, even without fixative. It is possible to layer several layers of colour on top of each other without a saturation effect. Effortless smudging with the fingers on the velvety surface is very gentle on the fingers. The velvety surface is unique: coarser than velour paper, softer than sandpaper.

This opens up completely new possibilities for the artist. Very soft shading, fine lines or precise details can be realised. The consumption of pigments is 30 to 40 % less than with conventional sandpaper. The paper is 100% natural, an organic surface made from plant cellulose without the addition of chemical abrasives. The less rough surface also produces very little pastel dust when working. Pastelmat paper can also be used for wet techniques, with water-based or denatured alcohol-based colour. It has archival quality, is pH-neutral and acid-free.
