The cityscape of the old residence city of Darmstadt was characterized by charming contrasts. In addition to the small, winding old town and the buildings of the court, there were the expansions of the Renaissance, Baroque, and especially Classicism. The buildings of the Art Nouveau style represented another highlight in the city's development. Almost all of this was destroyed in the air raids of 1943/1944. This book offers, for the first time, the opportunity to explore the old city through around 90 original color photographs.
