The Flying Mountain is the story of two brothers who set out from the southwest coast of Ireland to the Trans-Himalayas, to the land of Kham, and into the mountains of Eastern Tibet in search of an unnamed, yet unclimbed mountain, perhaps the last white spot on the world map. In their quest, the brothers encounter not only the archaic world of nomads, which is under Chinese occupation and burdened by the present-day realities of war, but also, in very different ways, the concept of death. Only one of the two returns from the mountains to the sea and to a life in which he begins to understand the riddle of love as his and his lost brother's true, long-hidden, never fully measurable, and never conquerable goal. Transformed by the experience, indeed by the discovery of reality, the survivor sets out once again on his journey.
