The book provides a comprehensive overview from the physical fundamentals to the understanding of the stationary and dynamic operating behavior of electrical machines and drives. Special attention is given to current motor developments. The basics of electrical machines are discussed in detail based on the three fundamental types: asynchronous machines, synchronous machines, and direct current machines. Different designs are explained, and the stationary operating behavior is derived. In addition to the illustrative description based on modern machines, the mathematically grounded foundation is developed from the very beginning. The focus is deliberately placed on three-phase technology, as it increasingly displaces traditional direct current technology into niche applications. Current motor developments, especially in connection with converter supply, are discussed in detail.
