A walker finds a dead girl in a Norwegian forest, hanging from a tree with a jump rope and wearing a sign around her neck that reads: "I travel alone." Commissioner Holger Munch decides to enlist the help of his colleague Mia Krüger, whose intuition is unmatched. He travels to the island of Hitra to pick her up. What Munch doesn't know is that Mia has retreated there to take her own life. But when she sees the images of the dead girl, she discovers a detail that has been overlooked - one that suggests this will not be the only victim.
