The book is aimed at both professionals and enthusiasts of the geosciences. It aims to aid in the understanding of geoscientific texts and serves as an important study companion for aspiring geoscientists. The 13th edition has been completely revised and redesigned. The terms have been consistently explained in line with the currently valid theory of plate tectonics, with old, outdated terms (such as geosyncline) not removed but provided with corresponding explanations and marked as no longer in use. An English translation has been added for each technical term to assist in writing geoscientific texts in English. All illustrations in the new edition are in color. Some have been carried over from the previous edition in revised form, but most have been created anew.
