Graz is considered Austria's capital of architecture. The second-largest city in the Alpine Republic boasts both the UNESCO World Heritage Site of its old town and the experimental buildings of the Graz School from the late 20th century. Since 2011, as a UNESCO City of Design, Graz impresses with outstanding examples of historical and contemporary architecture, such as the Renaissance palace Eggenberg or the Kunsthaus, also known as the friendly alien. The updated second edition of the architecture guide to Graz, expanded by 60 buildings, covers all relevant structures from the 12th to the 21st century.
