Mascha Kaléko, born on June 7, 1907, as the daughter of Jewish parents in Galicia, connected with the literary bohemia in Berlin during the 1920s, particularly at the Romanisches Café, and achieved her first major success in 1933 with the Lyrical Stenogram Notebook. In 1938, she emigrated to the USA, from where she moved to Israel in 1959. She died on January 21, 1975, in Zurich.
