Gelsomina Settembre, known to everyone simply as Mina, is a social worker in one of the most rundown neighborhoods of Naples, the Quartieri Spagnoli. She herself comes from a better background, which surprises many as to how passionately the "Lady" advocates for the sick, weak, and poor. After her marriage ended with Claudio, a distinguished judge who still mourns Mina, the 42-year-old has reluctantly moved back in with her mother. However, there is a glimmer of hope: the clumsy yet undeniably attractive doctor Domenico, who has his practice next to Mina's office. If only Domenico would finally get his act together... Meanwhile, Mina's ex-husband Claudio is dealing with a mysterious case: a serial killer is terrorizing the city. After each of his seemingly random murders, a vase with twelve roses is found at the crime scene, some wilted, others still fresh. What Claudio doesn't know is that Mina receives a rose every day and has taken the investigation into her own hands.
