The conference of the same name in London was a response to Alain Badiou's "The Communist Hypothesis." Under the slogan "The Long Night of the Left is Coming to an End," Slavoj Žižek gathered more than twenty leftist and left-radical theorists, including Antonio Negri, Bruno Bosteels, Terry Eagleton, and Alberto Toscano, to discuss the possibilities of a communist renewal and the necessity of communism as a societal project for the future. The conference did not see itself as an academic lecture series, but rather as a practical-theoretical guide to political action. The two conference volumes compile all contributions from this groundbreaking exchange.
