The name originates from the British writer Bruce Chatwin, who preferred the simple black notebooks from a French paper manufacturer in Tours for his work and affectionately called them Moleskin. In 1997, the anonymous notebook, which had carried the sketches and stories of many artists and intellectuals, was revived by a Milanese publisher, who chose the literature-inspired name Moleskine.
