Arkham Asylum: A Dark House in a Gloomy World is a disturbing comic. It takes the reader on a journey through Gotham's asylum, simultaneously captivating and unsettling them, repelling and enthralling them. It is a psychological horror story that pushes both Batman and the reader to their limits. After an incident at Arkham, the inmates have taken control. They are willing to negotiate, but there is one condition: Batman must come to the asylum. He must become one of them. At the same time, the mystery is revealed as to why Amadeus Arkham transformed his family home into an institution for the treatment of the mentally ill and why he ultimately succumbed to madness himself. Grant Morrison has created an incredibly complex work here, uniquely brought to life by the artwork of Dave McKean.
