Product details
Sappho, born around 600 BC on the island of Lesbos, is considered the most significant Greek lyric poet. Early on, rumors surrounded the circle of female friends she gathered around her. Sappho's love poems, mostly preserved only in fragments, demonstrate great intimacy and emotional depth, intertwined with homoerotic undertones. Her language combines expressive power with musical beauty. The volume also includes the Cologne papyrus fragment, published for the first time in 2004, which is a lyrical lament about aging.
