Our cat is also very greedy and has broken open other feeders in the past (we had to weigh them down with several books). But nothing has ever happened here. The lid fits tightly and is, in my opinion, also quite odour-proof - so the cats don't even smell the food inside. You can only open the lid through the flap at the back, which I think is also quite difficult for a cat. If yours could manage it anyway, I would just put the machine close to a wall or cover it with tape. The button for manual dispensing must remain pressed to skip a portion, pressing it once is not enough. Since our cat respects the flap, I just tested it with my finger. The flap closes again - but since the flap is only made of plastic, nothing happens. But that's more of a problem, and if your cats tend to reach in there, the output gets blocked and the flap no longer closes properly, because grains get stuck in between. I have to say, though, that the sound is a bit off-putting for our house cat - maybe for yours, too. He runs when he hears the flap, but then only comes to the bowl to eat when all the grains are out. As soon as the food is out, the flap closes again very quickly. Hope I could help. :)

The product is powered by electricity. However, the feeder can also be operated with back-up batteries in case of power failure (4 x AA batteries, batteries not included).

The metal feeding bowl fits perfectly in a plastic holder, which docks neatly magnetically to the station. The tray can therefore be easily removed for cleaning and I see no reason to replace it. Another very flat tray could be placed underneath, but this would not be fixed and it simply makes little sense. The device only works to a limited extent on battery power, which is effectively only intended for bridging power failures, feeding simply continues. The Wi-Fi, for example, is then deactivated, i.e. no access via app etc. The battery would probably not last very long either.

Yes, because this product allows you to choose flexible small portions - so we very rarely have anything left in the food bowl. The rest of the container is very leak-proof - a silica salt packet in the lid keeps the rest of the food nice and dry. We are impressed with the product. Incidentally, our cat knows exactly when her portions are due... she then roams around the kitchen two or three minutes beforehand and gets her portion.

The app works perfectly on the Iphone and I can dispense food from anywhere and receive fault messages

The bowl is made of steel and can be easily lifted out for cleaning.

Re 1) The automatic feeder can only be programmed via the app. On the unit itself, you can only manually trigger a feed release by pressing a button. This button is covered by the cover (so that it remains out of reach even for the most trained animal). Re 2) Once programmed, the feeder also works without WLAN.
