Ride faster, more comfortably, and with even greater puncture protection. Vectran is a high-tech fiber made synthetically, inspired by nature. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer. Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multifilament yarn. Both spider silk and Vectran possess enormous tear resistance at minimal weight. These properties are ideal for use as a puncture protection insert in a Continental top tire. A Vectran breaker is lighter, more flexible, and provides more effective cut protection than comparable nylon breakers, without affecting rolling resistance.

The Grand Prix 5000 is a "classic" in Continental's road bike tyre portfolio and scores well in almost all test criteria. Puncture protection and rolling resistance are both in the upper mid-range. However, at 338 grammes, the GP 5000 is one of the heaviest tyres in this test field.
All-season tyres are often said to sacrifice better grip and puncture protection for greater weight and, above all, poorer rolling resistance - in many cases, not without good reason.
