The SILCA Super Secret Chain Lubricant began over a year ago as a project to develop the fastest available wax melt lubricant. Josh recommends hot wax and has been helping professional cyclists and triathletes with chain waxing for years, wanting to offer his lubricant formula to our customers. The challenge was how to consistently melt, soak, and stir the chain in various designs and temperatures of the slow cooker. The project took a fascinating turn in the world of IndyCar racing when Josh was introduced to a group that had developed a technology to incorporate microscale wax powders into a solution that dried quickly and formed a coating indistinguishable from dipping in hot water. The combination of air-drying liquid wax and tungsten disulfide quickly proved to be better than all currently available hot melt waxes for friction tests and was also much faster and easier to apply.
