The tapered design of the shaft beneath the nail head and the serration ensure precise force transfer in steel plate-wood nail connections.

CNA comb nails can be replaced by CSA screws according to the Simpson Strong-Tie comparison without further proof. In the reverse case, evidence must be provided.
