The domestic donkey is originally descended from the African wild ass. It copes well with hot temperatures and has low dietary demands. It is often labeled as stubborn and foolish when it seemingly stops without reason and refuses to move on. However, the opposite is true. Donkeys cannot run as fast as horses, so it would be illogical for them to panic and flee in a dangerous situation. They first take a moment to assess whether they are truly in danger and, if so, which escape route would be the best.
