The Battle of Austerlitz represents Napoleon's greatest success and is considered a masterpiece of military strategy. Fought on December 2, 1805, near the town of Austerlitz, it is also known as the "Battle of the Three Emperors," as it saw Napoleon's Grande Armée on one side and the allied armies of Tsar Alexander I of Russia and Emperor Francis II of Austria on the other. Following Napoleon's strategic success at Ulm, the Battle of Austerlitz marked the decisive moment of the fighting during the War of the Third Coalition. The twin-engine high-wing bomber Dornier Do 217 was extensively used by the German Luftwaffe during World War II. Versatile and adaptable, it could carry out bombing raids, attacks on naval targets, as well as night fighter missions in its various variants. The Dornier Do 217K version was characterized by a reinforced fuselage, redesigned wings, and more powerful engines. It was specifically modified to carry and deploy the guided glide bomb Ruhrstahl SD 1400 "Fritz X" – a groundbreaking development of that time – on an underwing pylon. The CANT Z.501 "Gabbiano" was a medium flying boat designed for sea patrol, created in the 1930s by engineer Filippo Zappata for the Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico (C.R.D.A.). The aircraft was characterized by its large high-wing and side floats, making it suitable for patrol, search, and rescue missions at sea. It was equipped with an Isotta Fraschini Asso XI engine with 900 horsepower, providing it with a good flight range and a maximum speed of 275 km/h. It began its operational use during the Spanish Civil War but was primarily used intensively by the Regia Aeronautica in the Mediterranean during World War II.
