E3 2018 Day 2: All trailers and news from Microsoft and Bethesda
by Philipp Rüegg
E3 doesn't officially start until 12 June, but EA kicked off the trailer fireworks on Saturday. Over the next few days, we will be summarising all the exciting news, trailers and gameplay videos for you.
Before the football World Cup dominates the media, a much more important event takes place for gamers. For years, E3 in Los Angeles has been used by large and small game developers and publishers to present their new games. The starting shot is fired earlier and earlier. This year, EA is the first to shower us with new games.
Here's the link to day two
The hotly anticipated Bioware game "Anthem" will be released on 22 February 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The futuristic role-playing game focuses on team play, but is also designed to appeal to individual players. The video showed teams of four, all of whom had different battle suits similar to Iron Man's.
Here is a more detailed video about the world and the gameplay:
Many have suspected it, now Dice has officially confirmed it: The next "Battlefield" will also include a battle royale mode. The game is predestined to implement the mode popularised by "Fortnite" and "PUBG". The game will be released on 19 October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Nvidia has also published a video showing the Grand Operations mode on a 1080 Ti.
The next "Fifa" will be released on 28 September and will include the complete Champions League. This marks the end of the ten-year contract between UEFA and Konami.
The developers of "Titanfall" have announced that they are working on a "Star Wars" game. It is called "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" and focuses on the dark times when the Jedi were hunted. It is set between Episode III and IV. Release is scheduled for the end of 2019.
The cuddly puzzle game about the rag doll Yarni is getting a sequel. Not only that: the game was available immediately after its launch. You like to see something like that.
In addition to the trailer, there's also a more detailed gameplay video.
With Origin Access on the PC and EA Access for the Xbox One, EA already has a subscription model in operation that offers access to over 100 games. What's new about Origin Access Premier is that all new games such as "Battlefield 5" and "Anthem" are also included in the plan. They will also be playable a few days before launch. This new PC service will launch this summer for 15 dollars a month or 100 dollars a year. The existing Origin Access service, which is included in Access Premier, will continue to cost 4 euros per month and 25 euros per year.
In the broadest German-English imaginable, Cornelia Geppert from Berlin studio Jo-Mei presented the neat "Sea of Solitude". The language barrier and the absence of a teleprompter made the presentation a quirky yet heartfelt moment. The lovingly designed puzzle exploration game will be released at the beginning of next year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The cult strategy game "Command & Conquer" is celebrating its return - but not for PC. Instead, "Rivals" is a "Clash Royale" spin-off for Android and iOS. Android users can already try out the beta.
This is what the gameplay looks like:
This autumn, PC gamers will also be able to get concussions again. After a lengthy absence, the football series "Madden" is returning to Windows - to coincide with the series' 30th anniversary. The release date is 10 August.
Basketball fans will also get their money's worth again this year. The popular career mode "The One" will also be included again when the game is released on 7 September for PS4 and Xbox One. The demo will already be available to play on 24 August.
If you have too much time, you can also watch the whole show in one go.
Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
