E3 2018 Day 3: All the news and trailers from Ubisoft, Sony and co.

    by Philipp Rüegg

"Metal Wolf Chaos XD"

A remastered version of a From Software classic that never made it to the West. As the US president in a giant mech, you fight against the evil vice president. The quirky Japanese action game is set to be released later this year for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

"My Friend Pedro - Bananas"

This fast-paced sidescroller with lots of spectacular shooting is coming in early 2019 for Switch and PC.

"Scum" - battle royale game with a twist

Instead of 100 players, you only have to defend yourself against 59 other players. In addition to the typical battle royale gameplay, you also have to keep an eye on your calorie, vitamin and health levels. The Early Access phase of the PC title starts in August.

Devolver launches a lootbox coin

Devolver is known for weird press conferences. This year was no exception. That's why there is now a real physical Lootboxcoin. You shouldn't buy it, because it has absolutely no value and is in no way cryptocurrency, Devolver admitted. Nevertheless, the marketing campaign meant that the coin already costs 150 dollars.

New VR game: "Wolfenstein Cyberpilot"

Bethesda also had something in store for VR fans. In "Wolfenstein Cyberpilot", you take on the role of a Resistance hacker who fights Nazis and fire-breathing robot dogs in Paris. The game is set to be released in 2019 for the HTC Vive.

"Quake Champions" free for one week

The online shooter is to receive a few unspecified new features. So far so unspecific. What is more exciting is that the title will soon be free to play for a week.

Two new expansions for "The Elder Scrolls Online"

"The Elder Scrolls Online" is still very popular. The online gaming community should therefore be delighted that Wolfhunter will introduce werewolves to the game and Murkmire will add a new region. Both DLCs will follow in the second half of this year.

"Elder Scrolls Legends" to be released for consoles

Having been available for PC and mobile for some time, the card game will soon also be coming to PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

Bethesda's new space role-playing game "Starfield"

"Starfield" is the first new brand in 25 years to come from Bethesda Studios - "Rage" etc. is only published by Bethesda. However, there was no real information about "Starfield". It is only likely to be released for the next generation of consoles.

"Fallout 76" special edition

If, like me, you can never have enough dust collectors, you might be interested in the Power Armour Edition. It contains a Power Armour helmet, a bag and much more.

"Skyrim" lands on Amazon Alexa

Bethesda has unveiled "Skyrim Very Special Edition" with a self-deprecating trailer. This allows you to play the role-playing game in audio form - similar to text adventures in the past. You can activate it now.

Update: Apparently there is also a way to run the version on Android and iOS devices.

DLC for "Prey"

The action role-playing game "Prey" is getting a free DLC with "Mooncrash" and the best thing is - it's available now.

The next "Doom" is set on Earth

"Doom Eternal" will bring the monsters of hell to Earth. However, the actual presentation will not take place until 10 August during Quakcon 2018.

"Rage 2" turns the open-world action screw

The shreds fly in the almost seven-minute video. In vehicles and on foot, you can really let off steam in this post-apocalyptic action role-playing game. Release is spring 2019.

Online survival with "Fallout 76"

You shouldn't expect a classic Bethesda role-playing game with "Fallout 76". Instead, it will be an online survival game. The building components from part 4 have been significantly expanded. You won't lose your progress when you die, as is usually the case in most survival games. Instead, you should be able to drop nuclear bombs on other bases.

Here is the whole presentation [[video:85944]]

Bethesda press conference shows a new "Elders Scrolls"

At the press conference it was the crowning finale, I'm kicking it off. Chief developer Todd Howard has delighted us with a mini-trailer for "The Elders Scrolls 6". However, he does not explain where in Tamriel the game is set, nor when it will be released.

The whole Xbox party in one go

In case I've forgotten something or you'd like to watch the press conference in one go, here you go.

Some "Zelda" feeling for the Xbox One with "Tunic"

The upcoming adventure game "Tunic" by Canadian Andrew Shouldice exudes a strong "Zelda" vibe. He is single-handedly developing this neat game, which will be released for PC and Xbox One. There is no date yet. It will also be released on PS4 at a later date.

"Dragon Ball", "One Piece" and "Death Note" go head to head

Another mash-up awaits players with "Jump Force". In it, characters from "Dragon Ball", "One Piece", "Death Note" and other manga series beat each other up. Release is planned for 2019 for PS4 and Xbox One.

DLC for "Cuphead"

New fodder for platform game fans with strong nerves. "The Delicious Last Course" will also feature a new playable character, Ms Chalice. The DLC will be released in early 2019 for PC and Xbox One.

Short look at the campaign in "Battlefield 5"

War Stories will once again feature in the latest "Battlefield". The first episode sends you to Norway. "Battlefield 5" will be released on 19 October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The frogs strike again with "Battletoads"

One of the most iconic NES and SNES games returns. Three-player couch co-op and hand-drawn 2.5D graphics are set to recreate the atmosphere of the time. Release is 2019 for the Xbox One.

No "Skate 4" but "Session"

The Kickstarter project "Session" has made it onto the Xbox stage. Like the "Skate" series, "Session" is also played with two analogue sticks. You will find out whether the skateboarding game hype of the 90s will flare up again at the end of the year when the preview version for PC and Xbox One is released. The final release is planned for 2019.

Snow map for "PUBG"

In addition to the jungle map, which will soon be officially released for PC and will land on Xbox One in summer, something frosty was also teased. A winter map will be added to match the winter. There is also a new mode called War Mode. The motto here is: one shot, one kill.

First gameplay of "Shadow of the Tomb Raider"

Mrs Croft's next adventures are also likely to be spectacular. The breakneck escape from a Mayan temple was shown. Unlike its two predecessors, the game is no longer being developed by Crystal Dynamics, but by Eidos Montreal. It will be released on 14 September for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The Xbox Game Pass becomes more attractive

Just like EA with Access Premier, Microsoft is also strengthening its plan. The Netflix-like Game Pass will now also include The Division, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, Fallout 4 and the Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In addition, a new technology called FastStart will ensure that the cloud service can deliver games much faster.

"We Happy Few"

The first trailer looked like a mixture of Bioshock and A Clockwork Orange. In the early access phase, however, it appeared to be more of a survival game. A lot is said to have happened since then. You can see for yourself on 10 August when it is released for PC and Xbox One.

First look at "Fallout 76"

Before Bethesda really unveiled the new "Fallout" at its own press conference, there was already a small preview on the Xbox stage. The game is said to be four times the size of "Fallout 4". It is set before the previous "Fallout" parts and shortly after the nuclear destruction, when the first bunker (76) opened its floodgates. The game will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 14 November.

"Forza Horizon 4"

Playground Games is bringing the fourth instalment of the open-world racing series to the UK. There you can once again get behind the wheel of countless sleek racers and put the pedal to the metal. The dynamic change of seasons ensures variety on the racetrack. Release is on 2 October for PC and Xbox One.

"Metro Exodus"

The post-apocalyptic (you'll be hearing that word a lot at this E3) "Metro Exodus" has been given a little more light with a new gameplay trailer. The game is set to be released on 22 February 2019 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Two new DLCs for "Sea of Thieves"

The piratesque multiplayer adventure urgently needs new content. Developer Rare knows this too and is therefore delivering two DLCs in the next few months. Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores are scheduled for July and September respectively. Cursed Sails will crew ships with skeletons and unleash them on you and Forsaken Shores will expand the map.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" meets "Frozen"

The mash-up between Square-Enix and Disney characters is certainly one of the weirder combinations out there. The latest trailer shows Elsa from "Frozen" , who will also make an appearance in the third "Kingdom Hearts". The game will be released on 25 January 2019 for Xbox One and PS4.

"Ori and the Will of the Wisps"

Don't let the cuddly look fool you: the first part was already a challenging platformer with crisp gameplay and clever puzzles. The new part should continue where "Ori and the Blind Forest" left off. We'll find out in 2019 when the game is released for PC and Xbox One.

New game in the "Life is Strange" universe

"The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit" is already a great title. It's an adventure game that is intended to serve as an appetiser for "Life is Strange 2". You can download it for free when it is released on 26 June for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

"Crackdown 3" will be postponed

The open-world action superhero game has been postponed again. Early 2019 is now the target. Mascot Terry Crews is unimpressed by this when he talks big in the latest trailer

"Devil May Cry 5"

"Devil May Cry 5" is now the official fifth instalment after the stopover "DmC: Devil May Cry" from 2013. Nero will return as the main character and Capcom is back at the controls of development. The date is spring 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Microsoft has five new developer studios

In order to get to grips with the problem of a lack of exclusive titles, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now taken countermeasures. He announced that four studios have been acquired and a completely new one has been set up.

  • The Initiative is the new studio, whose employees worked on "Tomb Raider", among others.
  • Undead Labs is the studio that recently released "State of Decay 2".
  • Playground Games are responsible for "Forza Horizon"
  • Ninja Theory is probably best known for "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" or "DmC: Devil May Cry".
  • Compulsion Games caused a lot of rumour with "We Happy Few", which didn't quite live up to the hype of the first trailer.

"Dying Light 2"

Running, jumping and smashing zombie heads: that's what you'll be able to do again in part two of the open-world zombie shooter "Dying Light 2". What's new is that your decisions will affect the people in the game. A date was not given.

And here is the short gameplay trailer [[video:85897]]

"The Division 2" moves to Washington

The post-apocalyptic MMO is no longer set in snowy New York but in Washington. The landscape will also be a little more colourful and the gameplay promises to be more varied. You can get started again on PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 15 March 2019.

Here's some more gameplay [[video:85896]]

The wheels of war keep turning with "Gears of War 5"

In part five, you will once again be able to face fat monsters and chop them up into small pieces with chainsaw rifles. The game now focuses on Kait Diaz, who was also part of the team in part 4. Release date for the Xbox One is 2019

Red barrels beware: Here comes "Just Cause 4"

Exaggerated action, stupid dialogues, a huge game world and countless tools of destruction: this is what characterises "Just Cause". In part 4, it once again looks as if we are allowed to let off steam creatively and blow up everything in our path. The mood now seems a little more serious and there is also a tornado - no sharks as far as I can tell. Released on 4 December 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PS4

New work from the "Dark Souls" and "Bloodborne" makers

With "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice", it looks like another hard-hitting action role-playing game is coming from From Software. The title has already been teased at the Game Awards, but now there is a little more information. For example, that it is set in the Sengoku period in Japan. It is set to be released in spring 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

"Cyberpunk 2077" unveiled

Microsoft had the honour of unveiling CD Projekt Red's new work. For their ambitious project, the creators of "The Witcher" are travelling to the future, where you can hang out with cool hackers and drive sleek cars. There was no gameplay or other tangible information about the role-playing game - nor was there a release date.

Microsoft press conference: The Master Chief is back

The adventures of Master Chief continue. But that's all the information we have on "Halo Infinite". Developer 343 Industries is working on the latest instalment with the new Slipsapce engine. It is still unclear when it will be released. After all, the game will also be released for PC again.

I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
