Spotify: a decision against music?
by Livia Gamper
Over 100 episodes of the "Joe Rogan Experience" are no longer available on Spotify. The podcaster has probably taken them offline himself.
The website jremissing.com automatically checks which episodes of the Joe Rogan podcast are not available on Spotify - regardless of the reason. Currently, there are 113 episodes out of the current 1772, with 40 going offline as early as April 2021.
The debate around Joe Rogan, most recently sparked by Neil Young, was supplemented last week with a video summary that collected statements from the podcast host in which he uses racist terms or makes racist jokes.
Rogan subsequently, and in response, posted his own video on Instagram apologizing for his past language: "I can't go back in time and change what I've said. I wish I could, obviously, that's not possible."
That the deletion of the episodes originated with Rogan is confirmed by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek in a memo obtained by The Verge. "Not only are some of Joe Rogan's comments incredibly hurtful - I want to make clear that they do not represent the values of this company," Ek writes, reporting that Spotify had spoken with Rogan and his team about the use of "racially insensitive language" in the past. Based on the conversation and his own thoughts, Rogan decided to remove some episodes.
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
