Quick as a flash: Digitec Galaxus launches same-day delivery in Zurich

digitec and Galaxus customers who live in the city of Zurich can now enjoy a new speedy delivery option: orders that are placed by 1 p.m. from Monday to Friday are delivered on the same evening. Digitec Galaxus is planning to expand this delivery option to further cities after the pilot phase.

Charging cables, diapers, mobile phones or condoms: digitec and Galaxus have pretty much everything. The two online shops offer more than three million products in total. The most popular products now reach their new owners in the city of Zurich quick as a flash: order from more than 100,000 items that are in stock in the warehouse in Wohlen, Aargau, by 1 p.m. and your goods will arrive in your letter box on the same evening. Around 2,000 products that are in stock at the digitec store in Zurich's Technopark are delivered on the same day if the order is placed as late as 3 p.m. All at no extra cost.

Expansion to further locations
The new delivery option at digitec and Galaxus is called «flash delivery». The logistics partner for this service is the technology company notime, a subsidiary of Swiss Post that specialises in same-day delivery and delivery on demand. This speedy delivery option is piloted within the city of Zurich. «If our customers like the flash delivery, we'll offer it in other cities as well,» says Johannes Cramer, COO of Digitec Galaxus.

Delivery to your doorstep by cargo bike
Digitec Galaxus supplies its eleven stores from the warehouse in Wohlen once a day. The store in Zurich even benefits from two deliveries a day. From the shops, products ordered with flash delivery are handed over to the notime couriers for sorting and delivery. The couriers deliver the orders on CO2-neutral small electric vehicles such as cargo bikes and cargo tricycles. All products are delivered without additional cardboard packaging and filling material. By cutting down on packaging and delivering goods to doorsteps with CO2-neutral e-vehicles, impact on the environment is reduced.

Customers are notified about the time window of the flash delivery by text message and have the opportunity to communicate with the courier by mobile phone, adjust the time window and track the courier in real time. If you're not at home, your parcel is placed in your mailbox storage compartment. digitec and Galaxus customers can use the Followme portal to prevent orders from being deposited.
