The UTP cable consists of a plastic sheath that houses the unshielded, twisted pairs. Due to the absence of shielding, UTP cables have a small outer diameter, making them easy to handle and install. The strain relief sleeves in a particularly slim design allow for comfortable cabling, even with larger switches with 48 ports or more.

Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free, eliminating the dangerous release of halogenated combustion gases and minimizing smoke generation. Halogen-free cables are also flame-retardant, and there is no dangerous ignition cord effect.

UTP cables are the most widely used cables for Ethernet LANs worldwide. Cat 6 cables are designed for operating frequencies up to 250 MHz and are frequently used in professional environments. While longer lengths may affect transmission speed, minor overlengths are generally acceptable depending on external influences. Application areas for Cat 6 include voice and data transmission as well as multimedia and ATM networks.
