Can I also use it to run a script on a remote host, e.g. Esxi, if the power supply fails?

Install virtual appliance. Allow the USB port to pass through to the appliance. Done.

With a little scripting you should be able to teach a Linux image running on a VMWARE-esxi with access to the UPS via USB to trigger a remote shutdown. This is not possible out of the box.
The UPS is also natively supported by many devices and is connected to my QNAP NAS, for example.

The UPS is connected via USB to the device of choice (server, PC, etc.) and the included software (PowerChute Personal) then monitors the UPS or reacts to events and shuts down the PC or server if necessary. Unfortunately, no great leaps are possible with this version of the software. For use with scripts or multiple devices, the Professional version of the software is required. However, I am not sure if this will work with this UPS and how to obtain it. For use with multiple devices, I would also recommend a UPS with a network card so that the events can be queried via network instead of USB.
