Does anyone know how much waste heat the unit produces in normal operation? Can it be safely placed in a closed wall cabinet or is there a risk of overheating?

I can't give you a degree Celsius, but my UPS with all four connections occupied only produces a very slight warming in normal operation, which can just be felt with the flat of the hand. Therefore, I think you can "put it in a closed wall cabinet without hesitation".
