Good day together I am thinking of switching to the DS1821+, can I simply use the existing hard drives from my current DS918+ without losing data? Or should I buy new hard disks and copy the data directly? Thank you very much for any information from the community 😀

New disks and clean migration would be the right way to go.

Hoi, changing disks is the hardcore way - but not really the safe and correct way in my opinion. The correct way, which you also suggest, would be: Fresh disks, corresponding raid including configuration, copying of all data, test... and then work on the new NAS... (my2cents, I have 3 Synologies myself, migrated from 409+ to 414 to rs3617xs+1217 so always everything reliably and without data loss and problems). LG
