have a DS1815 that has a few quirks, would like to buy the new DS1821+, theoretically you should just move the disks over and everything should be the same...... is that really the case ? are there possible problems, things to consider?

Yes, that is correct. Simply install the disks in the new NAS. The order does not matter (in the meantime).

No, it fits like that.
When starting up the new NAS, pay close attention to what you press.
Don't forget that the old raid/disk will be formatted and a new volume will be created. :-)
