Hello, small question: could I expand the storage space on the Synology DS920+ (item 13405988) with my existing WD MY Book Duo (item 6504047) and would this then also be accessible on the network?

Hello You can expand the storage space of the Synology with all USB-capable hard drives (including WD My Book). It can be easily installed through Synology desktop software DSM.
