The overarching and diverse concepts of the Minister Fire (San Jiao, Dan Zhong, Xin Bao Luo, and Ming Men) play a connecting role in the interplay of transformation phases and ensure a consistent irrigation of our microcosmic landscape with all vital energies and substances. The San Jiao is the father of Qi and is responsible for establishing contact with all Qi, protecting both internally and externally, and maintaining communication not only within the Zang Fu organs. The Pericardium is meant to coordinate all movements of the blood, nourish both internally and externally, and protect the heart from all evils. But who would have thought that our pericardium could take on the role of a deranged chancellor, intent on usurping the heart-emperor? In his famous teaching poem "Biao You Fu" ("Poem on the Signs from the Darkness"), the Daoist Dou Hanqing presents a summary of his healing art. Dou describes the abilities of an outstanding doctor (Shen Yi), who truly masters the subtle techniques of acupuncture and achieves wonderful healings with them. In the method of saving lives, the application of needle therapy is remarkable! Thus begins his teaching poem, which is presented to us in 129 verses. Translations of two additional teaching poems have been newly added in this second edition.
