Product details
The Spanish visionary Santiago Calatrava is considered one of the most significant architects of our time and enjoys international acclaim as an artist. The spectacular bridges that are his trademark, along with his numerous other neo-futuristic structures, combine sophisticated technical solutions with a delicate, breathtaking language of form.
From the sports complex for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro to the Peace Bridge in Calgary, the Alamillo Bridge in Seville, and the pedestrian bridge Puente de la Mujer in Buenos Aires, Calatrava's works demonstrate his particular interest in the interplay of movement and balance. Inspired by NASA's modern space design as well as organic forms found in nature, such as leaf structures or the anatomy of the human and animal body, his buildings soar boldly and overwhelm the viewer with their light composition and aerodynamic elegance.
This volume illustrates Calatrava's distinctive aesthetics, characterized by a unique moment of movement, through key projects from his career. Whether it is a museum, a place of worship, a train station, or a hyper-modern skyscraper, they all feature an extraordinary flowing futurism—complex, spectacular, and unique.
