Is there an unconsciousness in building and planning? This question seems to have been the driving force behind Serge Fruehauf's long-term architectural photography study, Extra Normal. The photographer, born in 1969 in Vevey, has compiled an archive of over 1,000 images of absurd architectural details, all captured with an analog large-format camera over the past 20 years. The inventory of the artist, who now lives in Geneva, does not adhere to any scientific claim. In a very humorous and almost affectionate manner, he documents the mistakes and confusions of architects, planners, as well as civil engineers and contractors from the last half-century, whom the artist has encountered in the urban landscapes of Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon, or Paris.
