In 2017, the German edition of this first investigation into the practical implementation of Christopher Alexander's pattern language, using the Eishin Campus near Tokyo as an example, was published. Now, the English edition is being released. Experts from the fields of architecture, cultural studies, and the humanities from both Western and Japanese cultural contexts illuminate Alexander's thinking and its application in built architecture, while also examining the contemporary relevance of Alexander's theory of living systems as a counterpoint to the prevailing standardized and commercialized architectural production. A photographic documentation of the Eishin Campus today completes the volume.
