The secret of the Dura Ace BC-9000 brake cables lies in a polymer coating that, under a microscope, resembles tubes wrapped around the cable. This results in a reduced surface area that rubs against the inner housing. Additionally, grease is retained for a longer period. The main advantage is increased braking power with significantly less effort required at the brake lever. Polymer-coated brake cables (BC-9000) should only be used in combination with brakes from the BR-9000/6800/5800/RS500/R9100/R8000 series. Using them with other combinations may result in insufficient clamping of the brake cable, which can lead to the cable loosening and loss of control over the brake.
