MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) The MIPS impact protection system consists of a low-friction layer beneath the helmet padding that reduces the rotational forces transferred to the brain during an impact. This layer allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative to the helmet in all directions during a fall, redirecting energies and forces that would otherwise be transmitted to the brain. MIPS helmets are designed to protect the brain from oblique impacts, as rotational forces are generated during angled falls that can be transmitted to the brain and lead to brain injuries.
