The power transmission in the SDS-Quick system occurs through a form-fitting connection, while the conventional cylindrical shank system is based on a frictional connection. In the cylindrical shank system, the connection between the drill bit and the chuck relies on friction, whereas the power transmission between the shank and the drill chuck in the SDS-Quick system is ensured by a positive locking mechanism. This results in reduced friction losses and optimal torque transfer. The quick-change system allows for a drill bit change in just a few seconds without tools. SDS-Quick drill bits can also be used in conventional three-jaw chucks, with or without a key.
