Galaxus launches marketplace in Germany
by Daniel Borchers

Galaxus now offers image search. Customers can take or upload a photo of the product they want and will be shown matching or similar items from the Galaxus range within seconds. The feature is available in the Galaxus app and on the mobile web page.
That fancy mug from that hip café would fit perfectly at your own kitchen table. But where to buy it? Well, instead of laboriously googling the colour and shape, just take a photo with the Galaxus app (download links: iOS | Android) or via galaxus.ch on your smartphone. Click on the camera icon in the search bar to access the new feature. Within seconds, image search will show you the product in the Galaxus range. If the exact article isn’t available, image search will suggest similar alternatives.
Alexander Mühlbach, from the Galaxus app team, explains the launch of the new feature as follows: «According to Forbes, 74 per cent of potential customers say using mere search terms to find the product they want in an online store isn’t efficient. Image-based searches eliminate this tedious keyword process.» Oliver Günthardt, the architect behind Galaxus image search, adds: «This makes the shopping experience even more efficient and easy.»
Customers can also use the Galaxus app to scan product barcodes and check whether their desired item is available at Galaxus as well as how much it costs. This works with ISBN codes on books too.
How do you like the new image search? And which search feature are you still missing at Galaxus? We look forward to your input in the comments.
