How to wear your summer favourites in autumn

Tights are for beginners. The cooler way to pull off a summer outfit now involves jeans, jorts and trench coats.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But autumn is creeping up on us. The threatening accumulation of leaves, the mercilessly falling temperatures and the increasing number of layers you have to put on in order to maintain a comfortable temperature after leaving the house – the signs are here.

Still not ready to break the continuous loop of your favourite summer clothes? Here’s the good news: if you’re clever about how you put your outfit together, you’ll be wearing dresses, skirts and airy tops for a long time to come.

The right combination is half summer

The Fashion Week in Copenhagen in August was the place to be for well-layered looks. The reason? Danes are tried and tested when it comes to windy and unpredictable weather. If you don’t know how to style endless layers of clothes up there in the north, you’ll look foolish on most days.

Wide dresses hanging under trench coats over jeans, delicate skirts flowing out of windbreakers over balloon pants and skirts and denim Bermudas melting into harmonious dream teams.

True to the motto «more is more», airy dresses can now be worn over trousers, skirts over shorts and tops over long sleeves. And all this with boots, coats and transitional jackets. This isn’t something the world hasn’t seen before, but it always guarantees exciting, unique looks. We’ll have to grab tights and winter fabrics soon enough – so why not play with summer a little while longer?
