Galaxus is celebrating first birthday and extending its range

Translation: Eva Francis

One year ago, the online shop Galaxus was launched in Germany. In the meantime, the start-up from Switzerland has expanded its product range to over 150,000 products. For its first birthday, Galaxus is adding a shopping app and payment by invoice.

The online shop Galaxus is celebrating its 1-year existence in Germany. In the first twelve months since going live, the subsidiary of the Swiss e-commerce market leader convinced more than 75,000 customers. Over the course of the year, a turnover in the double-digit million range was achieved. «We’re more than happy with our debut,» says Galaxus Managing Director Frank Hasselmann. «Our shopping, information and inspiration platform is very well received in the highly competitive German market.»

Ready for Christmas

The growth in turnover was a result of expanding the product portfolio: since the online shop was launched, Galaxus has expanded its range from 50,000 to over 150,000 products. Today, over 150 suppliers are connected to the platform and contracts with over 60 top brands have been signed. In November 2018, Galaxus started with IT, consumer electronics and telecommunications products. Today, there’s also a large range of kitchen and household goods – and just in time for the Advent season, the offer is extended with a selection toys. Galaxus has selected quality products that are popular with parents and kids and make for perfect Christmas presents.

New digital and analogue features

Just in time for its first birthday, Galaxus is also launching a shopping app in Germany: it includes all the functions of the browser version, including the new product filter options. «More than half of all users visit our shop via their mobile phones. And mobile customers love online shopping where this is possible quickly and easily without media discontinuity,» Frank Hasselmann adds. On top of the shopping app, Galaxus has also implemented another customer requests: payment by invoice. As of 1 November, customers can have their orders delivered to their home and pay by invoice at no extra charge.

There’s a lot going on in the logistics centre and at the head office With the growing product portfolio and the pleasant course of business, there's a lot going on at the logistics centre in North Rhine-Westphalia and at the Hamburg head office: in view of the growing volume of orders, the logistics crew in Krefeld is always looking for new employees. Meanwhile, the Hamburg offices are getting too small, as the number of employees has quadrupled to 19 in the last 12 months. The Start-up crew is supported by hundreds of colleagues from the Zurich headquarters. To be prepared for future growth in the German market, Galaxus is looking more logistics and marketing professionals.
