If you have "FileVault" (equal to hard disk encryption) enabled in System Preferences/Security, you should be able to boot from it. Provided you have enabled booting from external media in the Startup Security Utility on a newer Mac with a T2 chip.

I currently use the predecessor (T5, formerly T3) for my VM's and sometimes have quite a lot running on the server. The performance of the disk was never a problem. So far, only the CPU has failed (HP Notebook Dual Core i7-7500U with 32 GB RAM).

The Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch - 1 TB - Black MU-PC1T0K/WW is compatible with both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Please note that an internal SSD is more worthwhile with the PlayStation 4 Pro variant than with the other PlayStation 4 versions (standard/slim), as this has a SATA III interface. However, a PSSD can also be connected without
be connected without any problems. With other PlayStation 4 versions, the T5/ T7 is faster than the internal HDD or SSD.
Also important is that if you want to connect the SSD T7 Touch to a PlayStation 5, only PlayStation 4 games can be installed, not PlayStation 5 games. This requires an internal PCIe 4.0 SSD.

I will gladly give you the answer myself. An IT forensic expert pointed out to me that only the "hard disk enclosure" is protected by the fingerprint, but the data is present unencrypted on the SSD medium. Anyone who has the time and know-how to convert the storage medium into a suitable housing will then have unhindered access to your data.
Of course, Samsung does not tell us this, but it is the only USP that would in any way justify the price for the paltry 1TB.

That's the nature of SSDs, they need a voltage refresh from time to time. In the best case, a life span of 10 years can be assumed - but I wouldn't rely too heavily on that.
The best choice for archiving is the well-known HDD, where it is best to store two disks with the same data.
The correct abbreviation would be MB/s instead of Mb/s, but it still does not mean MBits/s.

I have been successfully using the T7 with my MacBook pro for some time. The only issue I have encountered is that it takes a little time for the fingerprint reader to recognise my fingerprint - I have found that the fingerprint reader works best if the drive is connected when starting the Mac.
