I suspect that it is a driver problem. I therefore use a Kensington docking station. And everything works via a USB-C (I also have 2 monitors). In the office we have HP docking stations, so I always start the DisplayLink Manager to make it work. As I said, probably a driver problem, the power from an Mx-Mac is completely sufficient, but is probably controlled by Apple, which hardware should work (therefore Kensington fits). *I use a Macbook Pro M1 Max and a Macbook Air M3.

That depends on your notebook. I use the part as a docking station for my home office and have connected 2x WQHD. My old business notebook (i5 8th Gen) couldn't handle it. My new one (i5 12th gen) has no problem with it. Long story short: even if it's only WQHD for me, I'm sure the dock can handle 2x 4K (as certified as far as I know) if the processor and/or the USB-C specification of your notebook provide the corresponding power.

There are notebooks that cannot output a picture via USB-C and can only transfer data, this is also possible with PCs, i.e. neither picture nor sound nor LAN is possible. Does USB at least work from the USB ports of the dock? Or does that not work either, in which case I would guess incompatibility. Perhaps the USB-C port on the notebook is not intended for this purpose, but that would be extremely strange, because data should always work.

I have unfortunately been through 3 such docks from (50-150 CHF) and of course only the things from 200-300CHF work. I don't know why, probably something to do with non-existent USB-C standards. (Maybe change the cable?)

Hi Anonymous. What kind of notebook do you have? That should depend more on your GPU. Resolution is limited with 2 monitors, as usually only one DisplayPort is output via usb-c. I also had this problem. the only solution was to use two identical displays.

This is normal for docking stations that use USB-C technology. In your case, you need a docking station that uses Thunderbolt technology. e.g. i-tec Thunderbolt 3 to (HDMI, 27 cm) Lenovo ThinkPad Dock Gen 2 (2 x HDMI, 2 x DisplayPort, 135 W, Thunderbolt, USB A)
