The main difference between the "G5 Essential Dock (USB-C)" and the "normal" HP USB-C Dock G5 lies in beberapa key aspects: ## Compatibility and performance - Both docks are compatible with USB-C® and Thunderbolt™-enabled laptops, but the normal HP USB-C Dock G5 has a higher performance, especially when supporting multiple monitors. The regular G5 Dock can connect up to three displays, while the G5 Essential Dock may support fewer displays, especially when it comes to higher resolutions. ## Power Delivery - The regular HP USB-C Dock G5 offers a higher power delivery of up to 100W via USB-C®, while the specific power delivery profiles of the G5 Essential Dock are not explicitly mentioned. However, it is likely to offer similar but possibly lower Power Delivery options. ## Connectors and ports - The regular HP USB-C Dock G5 has a more extensive number of ports, including two DisplayPort™ ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, multiple USB 3.0 ports and an RJ45 network port. The G5 Essential Dock may have fewer ports, making it less versatile. ## Additional functions - The normal G5 Dock offers additional functions such as Wake-on-LAN, MAC Address Pass-Through and advanced network manageability features that may not be available in the G5 Essential Dock. Overall, the normal HP USB-C Dock G5 offers higher performance, more ports and additional functions compared to the G5 Essential Dock.

Try installing the firmware from the HP support page. It has power, but does anything light up? There are G5 and G5 Essential important for the firmware.

As listed in the technical description, the docking station has the following connections: DisplayPort (2x), HDMI (1x). What you need then depends on your screens, but I would always go for the 2 display ports.

Yes, it works, but you have to specify in the energy settings that the computer does not shut down or go into sleep mode when the laptop is closed.

Hello. What does "not working" mean? Do you have no picture on the external monitor? Are you unable to switch on the notebook via the docking station?

I think it has to do with the following, which is stated on the HP homepage: G5 Essential is compatible with "Thunderbolt™-enabled PCs"

The dock uses the USB Alt mode (basically DisplayPort via USB) with 3 screens with HD resolution or higher, the USB bandwidth is no longer sufficient for USB 3 and the controller must be "reduced" to USB 2. This only works with a restart. On some HP notebooks, you can activate a mode in the BIOS that reduces the USB speed to USB 2.0 in USB Alt mode. https://support.hp.com/us-en...
