I have been using an i-tec Dualdoc myself for 3 years. Based on my experience, I have bought two more for my colleagues.
With the first notebook connected (Lenovo X1-G3) there were sometimes delays when switching from the notebook screen to "the big one". Since December 22, I have had a Thinkpad P15v Gen 3, which runs perfectly.
Neither I nor my co-workers have missed a driver: simply Plug & Play! ;-)
No problem. I don't know which surface I have, but they are almost all the same anyway. I'm very happy with the docking station. One cable in, everything works!

Yes, it should work because the power supply is very slim, approx. 2.5 cm wide - 6 cm long and 4 cm high. In my case, it works without any problems on a conventional power strip, and does not cover any secondary sockets. LG

I checked the user manual of the laptop online. Bad news. Your laptop doesn't seem to support this charging function. This is sometimes the case with older devices. The video output for external monitors and the control of mouse and keyboard via the USB-C port should work. FG Robert
Yes, that works. However, there are also screens that can cause problems, I had trouble with certain models from Dell. I would definitely download and install the latest version of the DisplayLink software from displaylink.com before connecting it, even though it should be integrated in Windows 10.
Hi, I am successfully running this docking station on an HP ProBook 440 with Win10. This actually results in 3 monitors (1 on the laptop, 2 external, content adjustable in Win10).

Here you can see the supplied cable in a photo. It is a combination cable.
The connection cable with both ports (USB-C to C, USB-C to A) is included.
Product features

Drivers must be installed for all features of the dock. For all operating systems.
For Linux and more precisely Ubuntu there is one here:

This driver could also be adapted for other Linux distros, but it is a bit complicated. This also changes the firmware of the dock. I don't know if this can be undone.
Without drivers installed, there are certain basic functions of USB, I think.
Under macOS, older monitors may not work with the dock's DisplayPort, e.g. Asus 4k ROG.
I would first test with the macOS/Win driver installation whether the monitor setup works as desired.
And then fiddle with the DL Linux driver.

My wife and I both work in a home office and have received new notebooks from two different employers.
One is a Lenovo T17 and the other is an HP EliteBook G8 (currently still G5).
Charging and USB work perfectly with both notebooks. Except for the monitors.
Now I have read that software (drivers) are needed for the monitors to work. Is this true?
The problem is that these are two business notebooks where no drivers can/should be installed.
Is there a way without drivers or a docking station that works without drivers on both notebooks?

Unfortunately, the DisplayLink app does not support clamshell mode when the MacBook uses an Intel CPU (with macOS 11). Unfortunately, this behaviour is the same for any docking station based on DisplayLink technology.
If you have a MacBook with an M1 chip, then the clamshell mode should work without any problems.

I have checked the manual for this laptop and it looks like one of the USB-C can charge the laptop but at the same time this port support just USB 2.0 speeds. The second USB-C port support Thunderbolt3 standard, but does not support PowerDelivery (Charing over USB-C).
You can use this docking station - if you would connect it to the Charging USB-C port, everything would work, but transfer speeds would be at USB 2.0 speeds - if you would use FullHD monitors, then that should be OK, but if you would connect an external HDD/SDD, then transfer speed would be limited to USB 2.0 (around 40MB/s) because of it.
If it were up to me, I would be rather using a separate USB-C charger that would be connected to the Charging USB-C port. And docking station to the second USB-C/TB3 port.

Sorry for the question - I'm a tech newbie and hope I can get some help :) I ordered this product for my home office (have an HP notebook with Windows 10), I guess I can't avoid installing a suitable driver, can I?(my employer blocks such installations without prior approval) Also so that the charging function is activated and so that when 2 screens are connected I can close the laptop without it shutting down & without having to use it as a 3 screen? (It's already set up that way in the office, hence the question).

Yes, your MacBook will charge. However, note that this docking station can deliver up to 65W. If your MacBook requires 85W or 96W of power, I would recommend a similar docking station - CADUAL4KDOCKPD - it can deliver 85W of power.
Both docking stations can display an extended image on both external monitors.

I am thinking of connecting two 4k displays (DisplayPort).
Actually it should be, since USB-C/DisplayPort/HDMI/LAN/... are standards that you either meet or you don't. And this ThinkPad at least claims that it does (2x USB-C, resp. Thunderbolt 3). However, I have heard/read that the Lenovo X1 Extreme has its own standards here, i.e. it is only compatible with the Lenovo WorkStation Dock 230W?
